Thoughts: Integration, Not Reinvention
Oct 9, 2025

Engineers Don’t Want New Tools. They Want Memory.
Mechanical engineers are a stubborn breed.
We don’t like new tools. We like the ones that work. The ones that have been battle tested on late nights before deadlines, that crash when you rebuild one out of five times, that we were trained on.
That’s why, even when beautiful new tools show up; cloud based, collaborative, modern, most engineers and companies stay where they are. In SOLIDWORKS. In CATIA. In Inventor. In NX. The incumbents win not because they’re perfect, but because they’re familiar.
We see this play out again and again. Every few years, someone promises to reinvent CAD. But the truth is, engineers don’t want a reinvention. They want integration.
At Tandem, we know this. We’re not trying to replace your tools. We’re making them smarter.
Tandem lives inside the tools engineers already trust, quietly capturing design intent, linking decisions, and surfacing context without forcing anyone to change how they work.
Because engineers don’t need another window to manage. They need their existing ones to remember.
We’re not here to fight that inertia. We’re here to work with it.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably one of those stubborn engineers too.
